Tom worked as a registered nurse in coronary and intensive care for eleven years before training in acupuncture. He qualified at the College of Traditional Acupuncture, Royal Leamington Spa in 1996. He is also qualified to advise on nutritional supplements and in Tuina massage, to enhance the efficiency of his treatments

With his wife, Alyson, he founded the Pathway Clinic in 2003.
