Osteopathy - conditions treated

Headaches and migraines – often caused by tension within the neck and body. When this is the case, gentle manipulation of the spine can relieve symptoms effectively. Headaches can occur for many reasons, which is why a detailed case history is taken before treatment begins. The patient would be referred to their GP or other relevant therapist if necessary.

Low back pain – there are many different reasons for back pain; accidents, falls, lifting strains, occupational strain, arthritis or general accumulation of minor stresses over a prolonged period of time. Often pain doesn’t arise immediately because the body is very proficient at accommodating stresses and strains. Sometimes it seems that pain comes out of the blue. Whatever the cause, there is always a disruption to spinal mechanics. Osteopathy uses a variety of manipulative techniques to release the strain patterns and so restore normal movement and function to the spine. Advice on exercise is also given.

Accidents and other traumas – after suffering a trauma the spine is often twisted and jerked and can become quite compressed in places. Osteopathy helps to release these compressions by using a variety of gentle manipulative techniques.

Whiplash – the body is subjected to sudden forces in different directions causing overstrain of the muscles and ligaments throughout the spine. The strain patterns held in the body, sometimes for many years, causing pain and discomfort can be released. Advice on beneficial exercise will also be given.
